Herbal Teas for Children
Herbal teas have been proven beneficial for children for centuries. Parents serve these teas to their children for their nutritional benefits or to reduce symptoms.
Herbal teas have been used to treat symptoms of hay fever, cold, flu, cough, nausea, respiratory symptoms, and gastrointestinal sicknesses.
Three evidence-based teas that have proven themselves time after time are:
- Chamomile Tea
- Ginger Tea
- Mint Tea
Chamomile Tea
Those tiny, pretty white and yellow flowers are packed with powerful bioactive phytochemicals. While chamomile is renowned for its health benefits in adults, it is also pretty famous for treating children.
Chamomile is effective in children for treating colic, fever, croup, stomach cramping, flatulence, indigestion, motion sickness, diarrhea, and vomiting.
There has been no proven toxicity in children using chamomile tea regularly.
Ginger Tea
Ginger is an anti-inflammatory root vegetable known for its anti-emetic (anti-vomit) effects. It soothes the stomach lining and relieves nausea even in children with chemotherapy-induced sickness. It is also beneficial for cold cough, clear nasal congestion, and eases digestive cramping.
Besides being rich in vitamins and minerals, it offers antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Hence, it is a great drink to add to your children’s diet.
Mint Tea
Mint is another caffeine-free beverage that your children can enjoy. This fresh, minty tea is perfect for treating nausea, cold, sore throat, allergies, and motion sickness.
